I want my friends and family to see that while it sucks, it's manageable. Thanks and congrats! Do you know what your treatment will entail or the expected outcome? Sometimes talking about what will happen next, holds the chaos at bay. I find people don't believe they could ever get cancer so when I told them I got it it challenged their beliefs. Thus the strong reactions. Also they usually asked "why" I got it to which I had no reason this only made it worse.
I told the people closest to me parents, sister, in-laws in person, and it was like kicking a puppy every single time. For other family members that I'm really close to, I sent an email. It was to the point, but definitely optimistic. I felt like that medium allowed me to tell them "personally" but without having to deal with their immediate reaction.
When I talked to all of them later, they were universally positive, vs. I had a close co-worker tell people at work for me, and my sister and my husband spread the information around my social circle. Again, it allowed people to deal with the bad reaction before seeing me, so they could be more positive to my face. I figured I had enough to deal with, and I didn't need to incur the additional stress of seeing all the people I love cry and feeling like it was my fault.
I called it "Hodgkin's Disease" instead of calling it cancer, and I feel that was an easier way to break the news. This is probably a good way to tell people without hitting them over the head with it.
Breast disease sounds funny ; but I get what you're saying. Thanks for all the advice, email sounds to be a good route. I'm sorry about your diagnosis. How are you doing? I know the reaction you're talking about and I don't have any advice. It's shitty news to break. In my personal experience, a lot of the shock they are experiencing is because your situation challenges an idea that most people have about breast cancer, which is that it only happens to older women.
Stay blunt. Believe it or not, it's the most tactful way to break the news. I truly looked forward to the treatments because it meant I was getting closer to being done with it all. I also looked forward to visiting with the other people who were in the same leaky-boat I was in. We always found something to laugh about or goodies to eat. Bring all your favorite electronic gadgets You can also bring along a favorite cozy blanket, just make yourself as comfy as possible.
I always wore a shirt that buttoned down the front so I just had to unbutton one button so they had access to the port. Hang in there darlin'. Big hugs Good luck. Let us know how it goes. Start mine next month. More nervous about that than I was about surgery.
Good Luck and try and stay positive. It sounds like the other ladies have so much knowledge to share about their experiences with the chemo. Your will be fine.. Everybody act to chemo Different.. I sure you will be fine.. Don't worry nothing happen yet.. And I did great and u will too.. Chemo going to be your best friend for the few month.. Just Remember its killing the cancer cells and you will make all new one and be cancer free like most of us.. Good luck and I will says pray for you.. Just literally finished my second.
It was so much easier. High temps and humidity make "poison clothes" even worse — they open your pores and increase chemical absorption. And you absorb formaldehyde from multiple sources daily, so don't be fooled by manufacturers' reassurances.
It's important to note — laundering does not reverse that risk. Incidentally, you might be interested to know that this dye also shows up in cosmetics and semi-permanent hair dyes. Dudes, what did you expect? The stuff is a first cousin to plastic. Both are products of the oil industry.
Flame Retardant use began in , when government required children's sleepwear to be self-extinguishing. The solution was to add brominated Tris. Brominated Tris is a mutagen, and causes cancer and sterility in animals. Mutagens cause inheritable mutations by damaging DNA.
They also cause testicular atrophy and sterility. Tris was banned in children's clothing in but lives on in upholstered furniture foam, baby carriers, and bassinets. According to the U. Consumer Product Safety Commission's National Burn Center, only 36 children a year suffer serious injuries from sleepwear catching fire. My heart goes out to these tragic victims and their families.
But is the toxic contamination of millions of children worth protecting 36 children per year from burns? This sort of regulation is a product of the "precautionary principle" — the notion that there should be no limit to the amount of money spent or the amount of inconvenience inflicted on millions of people when it comes to preventing rare dangers that affect a tiny number of people.
The mania for making our society risk-proof and accident-proof actually increases danger in many cases. The Consumer Product Safety Commission exempts certain sleepwear from flammability standards. Two companies selling kids' sleepwear without flame retardants are L. Bean and Lands' End. Lab studies show that flame retardants PBDEs can cause a slew of health issues — thyroid problems, brain damage, ADHD symptoms, and fertility problems.
The insecticide permethrin is now in civilian outdoor wear and military uniforms even though no long-term studies have assessed its safety. When the demonstrator holds the paper in front of his mouth and blows across the top, he is creating an area of faster-moving air.
Archived from the original on March 10, You can demonstrate Bernoulli's Principle by blowing over a piece of paper held horizontally across your lips.
Archived from the original PDF on December 3, Retrieved June 25, However, as shown, it raises when the upward pressure gradient in downward-curving flow adds to atmospheric pressure at the paper lower surface. Perhaps, but What About Viscosity? Hold it in front of your lips so that it hangs out and down making a convex upward surface. When you blow across the top of the paper, it rises.
Many books attribute this to the lowering of the air pressure on top solely to the Bernoulli effect. Now use your fingers to form the paper into a curve that it is slightly concave upward along its whole length and again blow along the top of this strip. The paper now bends downward While it is true that a curved paper lifts when flow is applied on one side, this is not because air is moving at different speeds on the two sides It is false to make a connection between the flow on the two sides of the paper using Bernoulli's equation.
Also, while Bernoulli's principle allows us to compare fluid speeds and pressures along a single streamline and The upper edge is a complicated vortex-laden mixing layer and the distant flow is quiescent, so that Bernoulli's law is hardly applicable.
They are then asked to believe that Bernoulli's theorem is responsible Unfortunately, the "dynamic lift" involved School Science and Mathematics. Lift is caused by air moving over a curved surface. They are truly demonstrations of lift, but certainly not of Bernoulli's principle. Hold a piece of paper so that it curves over your finger, then blow across the top.
